Gavin brings this insite to the table after the Steelers performance or lack thereof last night.

Here's all you need to know from a pathetic ballgame (tailgate aside) via
Wayne Gandy...

We are, literally, just giving the game away. I don't even know if the other
team is beating us. We are just turning the ball over. "It was a total team
effort. The defense couldn't get off the field, we couldn't stay on the field
and special teams joined in, too."

Enough said, we suck right now.

What is going on with the Steelers? Hopefully the drought will end soon. We should still win the division but like whoa.... It was nice to see Rod Woodson be the guy that beat us. He will always be a Steeler regardless of where he plays.

In NYC from Wednesday on so I should run into some of you and if you are going to be in the city, let me know cause it will be done up.
This article puts into perspective why Edison's "company" schools failed and why they aren't a true representation of a free market school.

On top of that, Edison has a lousy business plan. Making deals with large government bureaucracies rather than with individual customers is a recipe for failure. To sign up new customers, it gave up the integrity of its original pedagogical model. Edison sometimes sacrificed key components (such as longer school days and more teacher training) to satisfy the unions and school districts with whom the company was willing to negotiate.

The result is that Edison has been serving the wrong customer. Many other for-profit education companies have realized that the key to growth is to satisfy students and their parents rather than the bureaucrats who can sign large government contracts. According to a January 2002 report by the Commercialism in Education Research Unit at Arizona State University, there were 36 for-profit education management companies in the United States in 2001, operating 370 schools in 24 states. An overwhelming majority of those schools are public charter schools, which receive their funding only after attracting students to enroll in their individual schools. These companies have managed to grow their businesses incrementally, hoping for a small profit at each school.

This is hysterical. Check out this article (via metafilter).

Citing the hundreds of thousands of satellite television dishes in Iran, Benjamin Netanyahu told the House Government Reform Committee that the United States could incite a revolution against the conservative Iranian clergy through the use of such Fox Broadcasting staples as "Melrose Place" and "Beverly Hills 90210" -- both of which feature beautiful young people in varying states of undress, living, glamorous, materialistic lives and engaging in promiscuous sex.

"This is pretty subversive stuff," Netanyahu told the committee. "The kids of Iran would want the nice clothes they see on those shows. They would want the swimming pools and fancy lifestyles."
Nice piece on what a libertarian actually is. Pleaes read this if you are unfamiliar with the term.
Because people have been asking me, here is a great article on fish oils.

So here's a question: Is there just one type of dietary fat? Clearly, the answer is NO. Of the many different kinds, we see a full medicine chest of dietary "drugs" (call them "nutraceuticals" if you will). And that's not just my assessment.(4, 6, 7, 23) One of America's problems is that — as is the case with many dietary components — we get no variety. Too much of any single nutrient isn't good. And yet we gorge ourselves on french fries, chips, and other greasy modern delights. We can't resist a good deep-fried refined starch. We end up consuming tons of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and trans-fatty acids rather than getting-in a healthy balance of omega-3s (DHA and EPA from fish oils, linolenic acid from flax), monounsaturates (olive oil, peanuts), and other interesting lipids. The goal for any physique and health-conscious individual should be to seek out and consume a greater variety of fats. I'll warn you, though, it takes some work.
Low carb beer anyone? Perhaps if I drank beer I would drink this. I think I'll stick to water. Thanks.
